This professional camera records Full HD 1080p using an AVCHD codec. The compact XA10 includes a detachable handle for low-angle shooting and portability. With the handle attached the XA10's functionality is further enhanced with the addition of XLR inputs and an external microphone holder.

A Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens delivers a wide, flexible zoom range (35mm equivalent range 30.4mm-304mm) and smooth, pleasing backgrounds thanks to an 8-blade iris. And an infrared mode allows users to capture video in conditions with little or no ambient light, a situation which would make other camcorders useless.

The XA10 provides the option of recording to a 64GB internal flash drive or two SDXC-compatible card slots and the ability to simultaneously record to two cards at once for instant backup.

Audio-Technica AT875R Line + Gradient Condenser Microphoneaudio-technica

The Audio Technica AT875 is a short shotgun condenser microphone that measures only seven inches in length and exhibits the sound quality and performance of larger, higher-priced shotgun microphones. The AT875 addresses the needs of videographers who prefer a short microphone that stays out of the frame, and efficiently rejects off-axis noise.

The smooth, natural audio reproduction captures every detail while a tailored low frequency response controls unwanted low frequency noise. The rugged AT875 operates on 11 to 52V phantom power, and a standard XLR output integrates seamlessly with some of the smaller professional cameras..

Audio Recorders

Olympus Digital Voice Recorder

The WS-100 is a combination digital voice recorder and mass storage device. With 64 MB of built-in Flash® memory, it is capable of 27 hours of recording time. It can also function as a mass storage device ("jump" drive) to transfer files from one computer to another. Its USB connector is built-in and is exposed by removing the battery holder. Therefore, it can connect to most Windows computers without a USB cable. Since it records in WMA (Windows Media Audio) format, it is supported by Windows Media Player. This means that the WS-100 can be used on Windows computers without the necessity of installing proprietary software to download and manage files. The earphone jack permits playback through headphones. The microphone jack accomodates accessory microphones in place of the built-in microphone.

You can also connect this recorder with a Auxiliary cable to your iphone and you can record phone conversations.  This is illegal without first getting the permission of the person you are recording, but this can be useful for oral history interviews.

Plug the auxiliary cable into the iphone, then into the audio-in (MIC) jack on the voice recorder, and plug your iphone headphones with microphone into the headphone jack so you can hear the caller. When you place the call you want to record, just hit the record button on the voice recorder, and you will be recording.

A quirk of this set up is that you cannot hear via the headphones unless you are recording.
