Mississippi Sirsi Users Group
Constitution and By-Laws

Article I:
The name of this organization shall be the MISSISSIPPI SIRSI USERS GROUP (MSUG), hereinafter referred to as "the Group."

Article II:
The objectives of this organization shall be:

  1.  To provide better communication among Mississippi users, and between Mississippi users and the SirsiDynix Corporation.

  2.  To serve as a support group for solving problems informally.

  3.  To actively voice concerns as a group for new system developments and enhancements.

  4.  To increase the interaction between users and Sirsi customer services through the Unicorn Users Group International (UUGI).

  5.  To serve as an educational/informational forum for potential Sirsi customers.

Article III:
Membership shall consist of staff members of the various institutional users of the Sirsi Unicorn System within Mississippi.  Any institution or member may withdraw from the Group at any time.

Article IV:
Officers of the Group shall be Chairperson, Vice Chair/Chairperson Elect, and Secretary.

Officers shall be nominated annually by a committee at an annual meeting to take place at the Mississippi Library Association meeting, and elections will take place at that time.  New officers take office upon election and serve until the next election.

The duties of the officers are as follows:

  Chairperson:  Presides at all meetings; represents the Group at related meetings when possible; gives direction to the   organization; calls meetings; acts as spokesperson for the Group; and performs other duties as assigned by the Group. 

  Vice Chair/Chairperson Elect:  Presides in the absence of the Chairperson; succeeds to that office if the chair leaves or resigns; becomes Chairperson at the next election; and performs other duties as assigned by the Chairperson or the Group.

  Secretary:  Maintains membership records and minutes of meetings; disseminates minutes, other relevant information and sends out reminders of meetings.

Article V:
The Group shall form committees as needed to foster the work of the organization.

Article VI:
The Group shall hold at least one meeting annually.

Article VII:
The Group shall maintain a listserv and a web site.  Institutions and all interested parties can subscribe or unsubscribe to the listserv at any time.

Article VIII:
Decisions shall be made by consensus of the institutional representatives present.  Each institution has one vote.

Article IX:
These By-Laws may be amended at any meeting by a consensus of those institutions present.  Notice of a proposed amendment must be given in writing to each institution at least two weeks preceding the meeting at which the By-Laws are to be amended.

Article X:
The latest edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern decorum and debate.

Article XI:
There shall be no monetary membership dues.  Each institution shall bear its own expenses.

Article XII:
Records shall be kept, and reports shall be made to the Group by the Secretary and the various committee chairpersons.  Any official documents will be passed to the succeeding chair.
