Using NetLibrary
NetLibrary is a collection of 9000+ online books searchable by title, author, subject, keyword, publisher, or year. Books can be previewed for 15 minute intervals or checked out for 24 hours. These titles are also included in the Millsaps Library Catalog with a link to the full text book, so you may also search there.
To Get to NetLibrary:
- Go to http://www.netlibrary.com or
- Start at the Millsaps Library Home Page.
- Navigate to Search Tools, then to Research Databases.
- Under General, Click Book Catalogs and then Click on NetLibrary.
From here, you may search NetLibrary’s eContent Collection by keyword, title, author, or full text.
Example: Finding and Viewing an E-Book
- Type Cuba in the search box with the Keyword button selected.
- Click Search. NetLibrary takes you to a page displaying all books with Cuba as a keyword.
- For a more exact search, click on Advanced Search at the top of the page. Here you can also search by date, publisher, and other limits.
- Find Gender and Nationalism in Colonial Cuba : The Travels of Santa Cruz Y Montalvo, Condesa De Merlin and click on the View this eBook link below it.
- Unregistered users may view a book for 15 minutes. Registered users may check out books to view for 24 hours.
Navigating and Printing
Navigating in NetLibrary
- My Shortcuts links located to the left while viewing the book, will let you navigate to the NetLibrary Home Page, Revise a Search, do a New Search, or return to your Search Results.
- The left column contains a Table of Contents. Click on any of the sections or chapters to jump to that part of the book.
- Click on the Plus Sign to view sub-headings.
- The left column contains the book page by page. There are HTML or PDF formatted books in the NetLibrary Collection.
- Navigation buttons are located above the book page to the right for Previous or Next pages and a Page Number entry box.
- A Show Acrobat Tools button is located to the right of the book page for PDF books. This toolbar allows you to print the page you are viewing and zoom in or out to shrink or enlarge the page.
Printing in NetLibrary
Only one page at a time may be printed or copied. Printing an entire book violates copyright laws and therefore is prohibited.
- HTML Book - click on File/Print in your Internet brower’s drop down menu. The page you are viewing will be printed.
- PDF Book - click on the Show Acrobat Tools button, then on the Printer Icon. The page you are viewing will be printed.
Registering for an Account
- From the NetLibrary main page, click on Create a Free Account in the upper right corner.
- Follow the prompts to establish username, password, and email address. At the bottom of the page, it should indicate that your account is affiliated with Millsaps. If not, return to the Library Home Page or Book Catalog page and navigate again to NetLibrary.
- If you are currently viewing a book and attempt to Add to My List or make a Note of it and you have not already registered, NetLibrary will ask you to register.
Checking Out an eBook
- After registering for an account, search and dispaly a book you would like to check out. The book will appear on the right side of the screen. The left side has the Table of Contents and other tabs.
- Click on the eContent Details tab.
- Click on Checkout for 24 hours. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to do so.
- A message appears: “The eContent was checked out successfully.” The book will be checked out for 24 hours, then automatically deleted from your account.
Logging Into Your Account
- From the NetLibrary main page, click on Log In located in the upper right corner.
- username: [Millsaps email username–include @millsaps.edu]
password ****** [must be at least 6 digits] - If you can’t remember your password, click Forgot your Username or Password? An email including your information will be sent to you.
Log Out
- Click on the MyShortcuts: Home link.
- Click on Log Out in upper right corner.
Many books on NetLibrary are in PDF format. These require the Adobe Reader plugin to view. Most computers (including all Library computers) already have this program installed.
