Library Basics (One 50 minute session recommended for all LS students)
- Why the library is an important and unique resource
- How to access the library Web pages (including off-campus access)
- Features available on the Web site
- Inter-library loan
- Searching the library catalog by author, title, subject, and keyword
- Searching for materials on reserve
- Accessing personal library account and renewing materials online
- Locating journal articles through the use of print and electronic indexes
- Demonstration of EBSCOhost database
Additional offerings (May be requested by instructor at any time)
- Searching the Web/Finding scholarly sources on the Web/Citing electronic resources (All or any of these may be selected)
- Evaluating information sources
- Systematic literature searching
- Finding and viewing microforms
- Hands-on searching exercises
- Coaching sessions for students’ research projects
- Custom instruction tailored to your specific topic/resources/information needs (For example, "Courtly Love" or "Slavery in the United States"/PsycInfo, MLA Bibliography, Project Muse, or JSTOR/ finding literary criticism or company information)
- Faculty office calls - One-on-one reference - Explore library resources from your office
Unless requested otherwise, all sessions will be conducted in the Library Computer Instruction Room with the exception of the session on microforms which will be held in the Microforms/Index Room. We will also be happy to make presentations in your classroom when appropriate. Please note that all sessions need not take up an entire class period. We will do our best to tailor them to fit your schedule.
